• Image of “BYRD SHOW” TRITON GALLERY - 1971

Roger Puckett, who founded Triton International Theatre Posters on 45th Street in the theatre district of Manhattan, was one of the most important influences of my early career and this, I think, is one of my most important posters. Roger had gotten permission from Jiri Mucha to reproduce his father’s poster “La Dames aux Camellias,” and as I was having a show at the Gallery soon, we were able to print two-up, which allowed us a free ride for my poster. I decided to reverse the composition and replace Sarah Bernhardt with myself in a suit I had made at that time. I placed myself in front of the sea, awaiting the arrival of The S.S. Destiny. On the window shade behind me are Mucha’s stars from Camille. Today I cannot believe that I did it over a weekend. The show was a great success, with an entire multimedia show and many celebrities attending.
